Abstract

Background: Asthma is a chronic lung disease that affects children and adults. It is caused by inflammation and narrowing of the muscles around the airways, making breathing difficult. Symptoms include coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath, and chest tightness. These symptoms may vary in severity from mild to severe and may come and go over time (WHO, 2021). General Objective: To implement nursing care by providing tripod position therapy and diaphragmatic breathing exercises for patients with bronchial asthma experiencing ineffective breathing patterns. Method: This study employed a descriptive method with a case study approach. The population consisted of 5 bronchial asthma patients at PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital, and the researcher used a total sampling method, focusing on these five patients. The case study instruments included standard operating procedures (SOP) for the tripod position, diaphragmatic breathing exercises, and observation sheets used to assess the patients before and after therapy. Results: Tripod position therapy and diaphragmatic breathing exercises were administered, and observations were made using observation sheets before and after the intervention. The results showed a reduction in respiratory rate (RR) by an average of 11 breaths per minute and an increase in oxygen saturation by 6%. Recommendation: The findings of this study can be applied to patients with ineffective breathing patterns to reduce respiratory rate, minimize the use of accessory respiratory muscles, and address nasal flaring and pursed lip breathing through non-pharmacological interventions. This approach may improve breathing efficiency in such patients.
