Abstract
Background: Hypertension is a chronic condition characterized by high blood pressure and is a global health concern, affecting 1.28 billion adults worldwide. This disease is often undiagnosed due to its subtle symptoms, such as dizziness and fatigue. In Indonesia, 34.1% of the population, particularly those aged 31–64 years, are affected by hypertension. Foot massage therapy is an effective alternative for managing hypertension by reducing pain and improving blood circulation. By applying foot massage, blood pressure can be lowered, contributing to the overall health improvement of people with hypertension. Objective: This study aimed to analyze nursing care for hypertensive patients with acute pain by providing foot massage therapy at PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital. Method: This study employed a descriptive method with a case study approach. The subjects were five hypertensive patients experiencing acute pain. The instruments included the nursing care format, a Nursing Kit, and the S.O.P. for foot massage. Data analysis was conducted using qualitative descriptive methods. The results are presented in the form of tables and narratives. Results: The primary complaint among hypertensive patients was acute pain in the head, with a pain scale of 4-5. The priority nursing diagnosis was acute pain related to hypertension. Nursing interventions and implementations included pain scale assessment, vital sign measurement, and foot massage application. The evaluation showed that pain decreased to a scale of 2-3 after administering the foot massage. Foot massage proved to be effective in reducing pain in hypertensive patients. Recommendation: Foot massage therapy has been shown to be effective in reducing the pain scale and improving patient well-being in hypertensive patients with acute pain. This therapy can be incorporated as part of comprehensive nursing care for hypertensive patients.
