Abstract

Background: Entering old age, more diseases attack the elderly. Hypertension, known as high blood pressure, is a condition in which blood pressure in the arteries continues to increase beyond normal limits. The prevalence of hypertension in Indonesia at the age of 65 – 74 years is 40,911 people and at age ≥75 is 14,922 people. The activity of elderly posyandu participants can be said to be active if they participate in every activity carried out by the elderly posyandu. The more often elderly people visit posyandu, the greater their chances of controlling their blood pressure. Aim: The aim of this research is to determine the activeness of elderly people with hypertension who come to the Posyandu in the Purwodadi Tambak Banyumas village area. Method: This research is a quantitative descriptive study using the cross sectional method. The sample in this study was 80 respondents aged 60 - 90 years using total sampling. Result: 44 people (55.0%) and the age range of 60 - 74 years 31 people (38.8%) are active in posyandu, 40 people (50.0%) are women and 4 people (5.0%) are active in posyandu, 60 people (75.0%) are not working, 50 people (62.5%) are educated in elementary school/equivalent, 77 people (96.3%) are well educated, 44 people (55.0%) have difficult access to posyandu, 49 people (61.3%) get good family support, 44 elderly people are active in the elderly posyandu. Conclusion: Elderly individuals with hypertension who are active in the posyandu, within the age range of 60-74 years, are predominantly female and not employed. They have an elementary education or equivalent, possess good knowledge, face difficulties in accessing the posyandu, and the majority of them are active in the posyandu. Recommendation: It is hoped that future researchers will include additional variables such as the elderly's attitudes towards the elderly posyandu, as well as the roles of community health workers and medical staff in relation to the elderly.
