Abstract
Background: Internalized stigma is stigma that arises and is felt from within oneself. The existence of stigma has an impact on the psychological condition of the family as caregivers which will then have an impact on the patient care process. Objective: To determine the relationship between stigma and the psychological well-being of families of mental disorder patients in the Sempor 1 Community Health Center area. Method: Quantitative correlational research with cross sectional methods. The sampling technique used a quota sampling technique with a total sample of 104 families of mental disorder patients. Data collection was carried out by filling out a demographic questionnaire, the Internalized Stigma of Mental Illness (ISMI) questionnaire and the Psychological Well-Being Scale (PWBS) questionnaire. Research Results: The majority of families of mental disorders patients at the Sempor 1 Community Health Center were aged 31-40 years with a total of 29 families (27.9%). 60 families (57.7%) were female, 42 families had a high school education (40.4%), and the majority were siblings of the patient, 48 families (46.2%). The majority had cared for patients for 5-10 years, 42 families (40.4%) and were the main caregivers for 68 families (65.4%). The majority of families had low stigma as many as 61 people (58.7%) and high psychological well-being as many as 70 respondents (67.3%). The results of the Spearman rank analysis showed that there was a relationship between stigma and psychological wellbeing with a p-value of 0.000 < 0.05 and r = -0.675. Conclusion: There is a relationship between stigma and the psychological well-being of families of mental disorder patients in the Sempor 1 Community Health Center area with a negative correlation, where if stigma is low then psychological well-being is high. Recommendation: Community health centers as health facilities are expected to pay more attention to the psychological condition of the family, because the psychological condition of the family influences the healing and patient care process.
