Abstract

Background: A femoral fracture is defined as a break in the continuity of the thigh bone. According to WHO data, 46.2% of fractures in Indonesia result from traffic accidents, with 25% of individuals dying, 45% experiencing physical disabilities, 15% undergoing psychological stress, and 10% recovering fully. Cold pack therapy is an effective non-pharmacological intervention to reduce pain. It involves applying cold to localized areas to induce various physiological effects. Purpose: To analyze nursing care for post-operative femoral fracture patients with acute pain by administering cold pack therapy at PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital. Method: This study employs a descriptive method with a case study approach. The subjects were five post-operative femoral fracture patients experiencing acute pain as the primary issue. The instruments included nursing care formats, N.R.S. (Numeric Rating Scale) observation sheets, and ice gel. Data analysis was conducted qualitatively and presented descriptively using tables and narratives. Results: The primary nursing issue in post-operative femoral fracture patients was post-operative thigh pain, rated at a scale of 7-8. Nursing interventions included pain scale assessment, vital sign monitoring, and the application of cold pack therapy. The evaluation showed that pain levels decreased to a scale of 3-4 after cold pack therapy was administered. Cold pack therapy proved effective in reducing pain in post-operative femoral fracture patients. Recommendation: Cold pack therapy has been shown to effectively reduce pain in post-operative femoral fracture patients. This therapy can be incorporated as part of comprehensive nursing care for these patients.
