Abstract

Background: Hypertension is a noncommunicable disease that increases every year. Headaches, dizziness, and stiff neck are symptoms of hypertension, if not managed, may affect with daily activities. Foot massage therapy can help reduce these symptoms by reducing blood pressure, pain, and increasing patient comfort. Objective: To determine the effect of foot massage therapy on reducing pain in patients with hypertension. Methods: This study used a Quasi Experiment with a Non-Equivalent control group design approach involving 32 respondents. Statistical tests used the Wilcoxon and Mann Whitney tests. Result: Based on the results of the study, it was found that there was a change in pain levels in both groups. The results of the Wilcoxon and Mann Whitney tests showed p = 0.000, which means that foot massage has been proven to reduce pain levels in patients with hypertension. Conclusion: Foot massage therapy is effective in reducing the pain scale in patients with hypertension. Recommendation: More researches are expected to examine to other factors that may influence the cause of increased pain levels in hypertension patients.
