Abstract

Background: Asthma is a chronic respiratory disorder that causes narrowing of the airways, leading to wheezing, shortness of breath, and coughing, especially at night. This disease can affect all ages, with a high prevalence among children. Conventional treatment involves pharmacological therapy, but non-pharmacological therapies such as balloon blowing have also been proven effective. Objective: The objective of this study is to analyze nursing care for ineffective breathing patterns in bronchial asthma patients with balloon blowing intervention at PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital. Method: This study used a descriptive method with a case study approach. The study subjects were 5 pediatric bronchial asthma patients. The instruments used included nursing care formats, Nursing Kit, and SOP for the balloon blowing intervention. Data analysis was performed qualitatively and descriptively. Data were presented in tables and narratives. Results: The study findings showed that all five patients had similar main complaints, including shortness of breath, coughing, fever, runny nose, and headache. Shortness of breath was experienced for 1-3 days and was accompanied by additional breathing sounds, nasal flaring, use of accessory respiratory muscles, and increased respiratory frequency. The priority nursing diagnosis for Patients I-V was ineffective breathing pattern related to impeded respiratory effort. The nursing interventions performed included positioning in semi-Fowler's position and administering Ballon Blowing. The nursing implementation also included positioning in semi-Fowler's position and administering Ballon Blowing. The nursing evaluation results showed improvement in shortness of breath complaints after the Ballon Blowing intervention. Shortness of breath decreased, additional breathing sounds disappeared, there was no use of accessory respiratory muscles, and respiratory frequency decreased. The results of the Ballon Blowing intervention innovation showed a reduction in respiration and breathing sounds after the intervention. Conclusion: The Ballon Blowing intervention is effective in reducing shortness of breath complaints and improving breathing patterns in bronchial asthma patients. This innovation can be used as an additional beneficial therapy in asthma management. Recommendation: It is recommended to conduct further research with a larger sample size and a wider variety of patients to validate the effectiveness of Ballon Blowing in various clinical conditions.
