Abstract
Background: Treatment in the ICU often causes anxiety for the patient's family. Several factors, including age, gender, education, patient status, therapeutic communication, length of stay, and the quality of healthcare services, influence this anxiety. Objective: To identify the factors related to the level of anxiety experienced by the families of patients treated in the ICU at PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital. Method: This study used a descriptive correlational design with a cross-sectional approach. The population consisted of 104 individuals, and the sample size was 51 participants. Results: Age was significantly related to anxiety (P value = 0.000). Gender was related to anxiety (P value = 0.027). Education level was related to anxiety (P value = 0.031). Family relationship status was related to anxiety (P value = 0.013). Therapeutic communication was related to anxiety (P value = 0.028). The length of treatment was related to anxiety (P value = 0.008). Healthcare services were related to anxiety (P value = 0.017). Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between the level of anxiety experienced by the families of patients treated in the ICU at PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital and factors such as age, gender, education, family relationship status, therapeutic communication, length of treatment, and healthcare services. Recommendation: Health services should be improved, particularly communication between nurses and patient's families in the ICU at PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital.
