Abstract
Background: Smoking is a global health problem that is difficult to overcome.In Indonesia, Prevalences of smoking in adolescents continue to increase every year. Where the prevalence of smoking in 1519 - year - olds increased significantly from 34.7 % (2010) to 48.2 % (2018) (riskesdas, 2018). Such factors as parenting patterns and peers become a major trigger. A teenager exposed to smoking behavior from the neighborhood. Objective: To find out the relationship between parenting and peer parenting with smoking behavior in adolescents in Karangtaruna Hamlet Methods: This research uses categorical methods with cross-sectional designs and correlational approaches. The sampling technique was Total Sampling with a total of 40 respondents aged 12-21 years who were members of Karangtaruna Hamlet Kaduomas. Data were collected through questionnaires related to parenting, peers, and smoking behavior, which have been tested for validity and reliability. Statistical analysis uses rho spearman correlation. Results: The results of the study showed that the parenting style of parents with the most dominant smoking behavior was democratic (42.5%) and peer behavior in good category is more likely not to smoke as many as 12 responders (30.0 %). Conclusion: Showing no relationship between parental parenting and smoking behavior in adolescents (p-value = 0.927) and there was a relationship between peers and smoking behavior in adolescents (p-value = 0.004). Recommendations: expected in further research to develop factors that can affect smoking behavior such as psychological factors, the influence of advertising and the social environment.
