Abstract

Background: Lip balm is a cosmetic preparation that contains several important components to prevent dryness of the lips by moisturizing and protecting lips from damage. Efforts to obtain the optimal lip balm formula need to be carried out at the formula optimization stage with the help of the Design Expert 13 application, so lip balm can meet the applicable requirements. Objective: made a lip balm formula from ethanol extract of siam weed leaves (Chromolaena odorata L.) using the Simplex Lattice Design (SLD) method and conduct physical quality tests. Research Methode: This research includes experimental research, by designing a formula using the Simplex Lattice Design method with the help of the design expert 13 application. With variations in the combination of beeswax and carnauba wax bases, evaluation tests were carried out on lip balm preparations used as antioxidants. Results: The use of beeswax 13% and carnauba wax 10% produces an optimal lip balm formula with a one sample t-test evaluation value of p>0.05 on spreadability, adhesion and melting point. The optimal lip balm preparation meets the evaluation requirements such as pH, homogeneous preparation, spreadability, adhesion, melting point, preparation does’nt irritate the skin, stable. Conclusion: the use of beeswax and carnauba wax bases can produce lip balm preparations that meet the requirements of spreadability, adhesion, and good melting point and meet the requirements of homogeneity, pH, irritation, stability, and safety. Recommendation: researchers are then advised to conduct standarization test on simplisia and extract, and use dyes that can bring out the color of the skin if the preparation is oil-based.
