Abstract
Background: Patients with chronic kidney disease usually suffer from uremic pruritus as one of their symptoms. This symptom is caused by increased blood urea levels due to impaired kidney function. According to data from the Central Java Provincial Health Office (2020), there are around 25,157 people in Central Java who have chronic kidney failure, while basic health research data in 2018 shows that there are 713,783 patients with chronic kidney failure in Indonesia. Objective: To determine the effectiveness of using coconut oil in reducing uremic pruritus in patients with chronic renal failure undergoing hemodialysis at PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital. Methods: The type of research used was quasi experimental method with pre-test and post-test control group design. Results: Wilcoxon test results obtained in the intervention group p=0.000. While the control group p=0.166. Then tested again on the mann whitney test to compare the data of the intervention group with the control and obtained the result p=0.042. Conclusion: The use of coconut oil is effective to reduce uremic pruritus in patients with chronic renal failure. Recommendation: Future research is expected to better master the material about the incidence of uremic pruritus in chronic renal failure patients undergoing hemodialysis.
