Abstract
Background: For children, the family is the first place to learn, because they will see, and tend to imitate whatever they see, including the behavior of their parents. Therefore, parents have an important role during the toilet training learning process. Toddler age is the right time to be taught toilet training because entering this age children begin to have cognitive and language abilities so that children are easier to be taught toilet training. Objective: To present an analysis of nursing care in families with the first stage of child development with the main nursing problem of readiness to improve family coping. Methods: This study uses a case study method. The subject of this study is a family with the first child's family development stage in accordance with the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results: The results of the study found that the five families had the same nursing problems, namely the readiness to improve family coping. Based on the study, it was found that on average families used diapers on their children and wanted to change it so that it did not become a habit. The nursing intervention carried out was in the form of toilet training education which aimed to increase toileting activities in children. The results of the provision of nursing care obtained a score before being given education of 32.8 and after being given education increased to 37.8. From these results, it can be seen that the average value before and after the demonstration increased by around 5. Recommendation: The provision of toilet training education and toilet training exercises is effective to increase maternal knowledge and the ability of toddler children to carry out toileting activities.
