Abstract

Background: Jyoti Tripaty's 2018 research found that chemicals in pregnant women have been proven to cause birth complications, premature births, low birth weight, behavioral and cognitive problems, as well as kidney and nervous system damage. The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) fatwa number 11 of 2018 on cosmetic products containing alcohol/ethanol states that the use of alcohol/ethanol in cosmetic products is not limited in its concentration, as long as the ethanol used does not come from the liquor industry or from non-liquor fermentation industries and is not medically harmful. Objective: Determine the level of knowledge and attitudes regarding the halal status and safety of cosmetics among pregnant women, as well as to analyze the relationship between respondent characteristics and their knowledge and attitudes. Method: This study employs a cross-sectional research design with a quantitative descriptive analysis method. The sample used is total sampling, consisting of 110 pregnant women respondents. Results: The results show that 87% of respondents have good knowledge, 27% of respondents exhibit a moderate attitude, and 73% display a poor attitude. There is no significant relationship between respondent characteristics and their knowledge and attitudes. Conclusion: The knowledge of pregnant women regarding halal and safe cosmetics is categorized as good, with attitudes ranging from moderate to poor. There is no significant relationship between respondent characteristics and their knowledge and attitudes. Suggestions: An intervention was conducted with pregnant women to improve their knowledge and attitudes using different methods. The researcher also hopes that the context of the questionnaire statements will be easier to understand.
