Abstract
Background: Diabetes mellitus is a variety of metabolic disorders, characterized by chronic increases in blood glucose levels. Long-term use of oral antidiabetic drugs can cause side effects and are quite expensive. The use of herbal medicines from natural ingredients is another alternative to overcoming diabetes which has relatively few side effects. Objectives: The purpose of this study was to find the most effective dose of a combination of guava leaf extract and rambutan leaf as an antidiabetic drug against streptozotocin-induced male white rats of the wistar strain. Methods: Guava leaves and rambutan leaves are extracted by the maceration method. The extract was standardized and tested by Thin Layer Chromatography. This study used 32 mice (Rattus norvegicus) wistar strains which were divided into 8 groups. Diabetes mellitus in test animals was induced using streptozotocin intraperitoneally. Blood glucose measurement every 7 days for 21 days of treatment using a glucometer. The results of the percent decrease in blood glucose levels were analyzed using the One Way Anova and Post Hoc Games- Howell statistical tests. Results: The extracts used in this study have met the extract standardization test. The results of the Thin Layer Chromatography test showed that the extract contained flavonoids. The results showed that the percentage decrease in blood glucose levels was highest in the combination of EEDJB; EEDR (25%; 75%) by 72%. Based on the One Way Anova test, there is a significant difference with the concentration of other extracts. Conclusion: All treatment groups had antidiabetic effects on male white rats of the Wistar strain
