Abstract
Background: Anemia during the puerperium is a disease of less blood characterized by hemoglobin (Hb) and red blood cells (erythrocytes) lower than normal. The impact of anemia on postpartum can cause disruption of mother's movement and activity in fulfilling her responsibility as a new mother. Boiledduck egg can be an additional protein intake (high consumption of protein) in the daily diet and it can be high protein food. Boiled-duck egg is one of animal protein sources having a very delicious taste. It is easy to digest and it also has high nutrient and iron content compared to other kind of egg (3,85 grams per 100 grams). Objective: To know the effect of boiled-duck egg consumption and the difference of hemoglobin level before and after consuming. Method: This study is an analytical descriptive with case study approach. The samples were puerperal mothers who with anemia. Data collection was obtained from the primary data through interviews and observations, and from secondary data obtained from library study and documentation. The study was conducted from April 15, 2017 to May 22, 2017. Result: Before the consumption of boiled duck eggs of 5 participants, participant 1 Hb level 10,2 gr/dl, participant 2 Hb 7,5 gr/dl, participant 3 Hb 10,0 gr/dl, participant 4 content Hb 9.8 g/dl, and participant 5 Hb 10,0 gr/dl. However, after consuming boiled-duck eggs – one egg a day during 21 days, their Hb level increased. The first participant has an increase of Hb level – Hb 11,2 gr/dl. The second participant got an increase levels of Hb 10,1 gr/dl. The third participant’s level increase was Hb 11,9 gr/dl. The fourth participant got an increase Hb 11,0 gr/dl, and the fifth participant’s level increase was Hb 11,2 gr/dl. Conclusion: Routine consuming boiled-duck egg is very effective for postpartum mother who have anemia to increase her hemoglobin level.
