Abstract
Background: The scratching nipples are problems often experienced by breastfeeding mothers – 95% of the problems happen because of wrong position of breastfeeding. Counseling can improve the knowledge about breastfeeding techniques. In addition, counseling using booklet as a media can increase the knowledge and belief of the mothers in the right breastfeeding techniques. Therefore, the writer is interested in applying breastfeeding technique counseling using booklet media for postpartum mothers and their partners. Objective: To apply breastfeeding technique counseling using booklet media for postpartum mothers and their partners, to know the characteristics of postpartum mothers, the knowledge level and breastfeeding techniques of postpartum mothers before and after counseling. Method: This study uses descriptive analytic method. The writer describes the facts obtained from assessment taken from questionnaires, interviews, observation and documentation. It was conducted on 5 participants from February to May 2017. Result: After being given counseling, there was an increase in knowledge level among the 3 participants (60%) and 2 participants (40%) were quite knowledgeable. The breastfeeding technique of the respondents had increased – 1 respondent (10%) having good technique and 4 respondents (90%) were able to apply breastfeeding technique very well.. Conclusion: Counseling using booklet media can increase the knowledge and ability of post partum mother in applying breastfeeding technique.
