Abstract
Backgrauond: The prevalence of disease is increasing in both developed and developing countries. It is estimated that by 2025 there will be an increase up to 35% in hypertension of the adult in the world. There are 237 elderly people suffering from hypertension in Community Health Centre II of Gombong. The knowledge of family is a contibuting factor in hypertension diet for the elderly. Good knowlegde will help the family make decision. Health education is needed to increase their knowledge about family health. Hereditary and environmental, such as food intake and daily activites are the factors causing the increasing hypetension. The treatments applied are pharmacological therapy (the administration of anti-hypertensive drugs) and non-pharmacological therapy, i.e. implementing hypertension diet regularly. Objective: Implementing health education about diet for the elderly suffering from hypertension to stabilize blood preasure at Klopogodo, Gombong, Kebumen Method: This study is an analytical descriptive with a case study approach. The participants are 2 clients with hypertension. The instrument is a blood preasure tool (sphygmanometer). Result: After having health education about diet, there is a decrease in hypertension, from 160/100 to be 140/90 mmHg (client 1), and from 140/100 to be 120/90 mmHg (client 2). Implementation: Applying health education about diet to stabilize the blood preasure. Evaluation: The diagnosis of inefective health care of the family and health behaviour tend to be at risk could be solved. The application of health education about hypertension diet is effective to stabilize blood preasure. Keywords: Hypertension, the elderly, health education
