Abstract
Background: According to the Indonesian Ministry of Health in 2009 the infant mortality rate in Indonesia is relatively high at 35 per 1000 live births, one of the main causes of infant mortality is low birth weight babies as much as 29%. The condition of low birth weight babies will experience body temperature instability that is hypothermia. Strategies to reduce the risk of hypothermia can be done by way of treatment of kangaroo methods. Objective: To know the effect of kangaroo method for reducing hypothermia in low birth weight infants at RSUD Dr.Soedirman Kebumen. Method: Case study using descriptive method is a method that describes a particular situation that exists at the moment, data collection by interviewing and observation techniques. Results: After the kangaroo method on the low birth weight babies showed no difference before and after the technique given kangaroo method, the baby's body temperature to be normal 36,5ºC to 37,5ºC. Conclution: Application of kangaroo method can increase body temperature in low birth weight babies who have hypothermia.
