Abstract
Background: Hypertension is a condition in which the blood pressure of systole is 140 mmHg or higher and diastole blood pressure is 90 mmHg or higher. Stress is a major risk factor of hypertension. Music therapy can be a way to reduce stress and hypertension by stimulating the limbic system associated with emotions. According to WHO, about 40% of people over 25 years old have hypertension, WHO reports that about 51% of deaths due to stroke and 45% of coronary heart disease are caused by hypertension. Objective: Performing the application of music therapy to cope with stress and lower down blood pressure of hypertensive patient. Method: This research is an analytical descriptive with a case study approach. The subject of this scientific paper is hypertension client. Data was obtained through interview, observation, and physical examination. The data was presented in the form of narrative text and frequency distribution table. Result: After having musical therapy for 6 days, there was a decrease in blood pressure from 160/100 mmHg with 23 points DASS score becomes 130/90 mmHg with score 17 points DASS. Recommendation: Hypertension patient is suggested to perform musical therapy twice a day for 15 minutes each to reduce stress and lower down his blood pressure.
