Abstract
Background : Smoking habits have now become a daily lifestyle in all walks of life, not least in Islamic religious institutions especially boarding schools. Smoking habits by factors that exist in him wrong level of knowledge about cigarettes. Objective : To know the realitionship between knowledge level of santri about cigarette and smoking habit of santri in Pondok Pesantren Nurul Quran at Bukateja, Purbalingga. Method : This research used coreelation method with cross sectional approach. There are 52 students as thde sample taken by purposive sampling. Data was analyzed by using descriptive and correlative analysis using Kendau Tau test. Result: Students with knowledge about cigarette category less (51.9%), then students with knowledge about cigarettes good category (40.4%), and santri with knowledge about cigarette category enough (7.7%). Viewed from the habit of smoking santri, santri with light category smoking habits (65.4%) and medium category (34.6%). Conclusion : There is a relationship between the knowledge level about smoking and the smooking habit of students or santri in Pondok Pesantren Nurul Quran at Bukateja, Purbalingga ( p=0.000). The better the knowledege level about cigarettes, the lighter the smoking habit is. Recommendation : There should be a regulation about smoking and sanction for those who smoke in pondok environment and giving counseling and direct guidance and also education related to the danger of smoking for health.
