Abstract
Background: Labor pain of stage 1 is caused by cervical dilatation, uterine muscle hypoxia during contractions. It is also caused by uterine corpus ischemia and stretching of the lower uterine segment of nervous compression in the cervix beginning to develop from 1 to 10 cm. One of the ways to overcome the pain is by applying nonpharmacological therapy. This is done by Murotal Al-Qur’an and effleurage back massage. Objective: To know the effectiveness of Murotal Al-Quran therapy and effleurage back massage on pain scale of stage 1 active phase labor in Dr. Soedirman Hospital of Kebumen. Method: This study is quasy experiment with pre and post test design group control design. The sampling is accidental of 60 respondents. Three times observations were conducted on the respondents so as to get control data and 2 intervention data. The data were obtained by using observation sheet to determine the pain scale of pre-test and posttest using the Numerical Rating Scale. Result: Murotal Al-Qur'an is more effective than effleurage back massage in reducing the pain scale of stage 1 active phase labor and deep breathing therapy with significance value (p value 0,000 <0.05). Conclusion: Murotal Qur'an therapy is more effective in decreasing the pain scale of stage 1 active phase labor.
