Background: Student’s motivation to be a nurse will affect the learning achievement. Cognitive learning achievement, i.e. Grade Point Average (GPA) is a number showing student achievement in the form of cognitive cumulative from the first semester up to the final semester. Objective: This study aims to determine the correlation between motivation to be a nurse and cognitive learning achievement (GPA) of the sixth semester students of S1 Program of Nursing Departement of Muhammadiyah Health Science Institute of Gombong. Method: This study is an analytical correlation with cross sectional approach. The sampling technique is total sampling with 79 respondents, using Kendall's tau_b analysis test bearing correlation p value 0.279. Result: The study shows most students (87,3%) have higher motivation to become nurses and the other students (58,2%) have very well cognitive learning achievement (GPA), with correlation p value 0.012 (<0.05). Conclusion: There is a correlation between student’s motivation to be a nurse and cognitive learning achievement (GPA) of the sixth semester students of S1 Program of Nursing Department of Muhammadiyah Health Science Institute of Gombong. Recommendation: It is expected that the campus conducts the test about student’s motivation to be a nurse in the procedure of new students admission.
