Abstract

Background: Hospitalization is a state of crisis of children, when they are sick and hospitalized. Playing therapy is a therapy that can be used as a medium of psychotherapy or treatment on children. Anxiety is a subjective feeling on perturbing mental stress as a general reaction to insecurity feeling. Objective: To determine the effect of playing therapy on preschool childrens’ anxiety level due to hospitalization at Melati Ward, Dr. Soedirman Hospital of Kebumen. Methods: This research designs was one group pretest and posttest design. The samples were 27 respondents taken by accidental sampling technique. Data were analyzed using Paired Sample T-Test. Results: The result of Paired Sample T-Test statistic gained p=0,000 (<0,05), so that it can be concluded there is significant difference between children’s anxiety level due to hospitalization, before and after the playing therapy intervention. Recommendations: Nurses of Melati Ward at Dr. Soedirman Hospital of Kebumen should create a special schedule for the implementation of playing therapy as an alternative approach to help reduce the anxiety level of children who undergo hospitalization
