Abstract

Background: Premilinary study on 10 students ofState Elementary School of Harjodowo Kuwarasan, Kebumen resulted that there were 7 students (70%) suffering from dental caries. This is because of consuming excessive sweet food withoutfollowing the health guidelines. Objective: Determining the correlationofconsuming sweet food behaviorand the incidence of dental caries of schoolchildren of State Elementary School at Harjodowo, Kuwarasan, Kebumenin Harjodowo, Kuwarasan, Kebumen in 2017 Method: This Study is a non-experimental research using cross sectional approach with correlation description design. The respondents were 58 students, taken bytotal sampling technique. Data were analyzed using Kendall's Tau technique. Result: Most of schoolchildren (51%) ofState Elementary School at Harjodowo are categorized to be fairlygood behavior in consuming sweet food. Most of them(58%) have moderate caries incidence (caries profundi). Conclusion: There is a significant correlation ofconsuming sweet food behaviorand the incidence of dental caries of school children of State Elementary School at Harjodowo, Kuwarasan, Kebumen. Recommendation: The findings of this study needs further deep research.
