Abstract

Background: Anxiety isthe impactofhospitalizationexperiencedbypre-school children. The impactofthiscandisturb the developmentandthe healingprocess of the children.Play therapy can be applied todeceasechildren’s anxiety. Objective:Describingplay therapy as a nursing careby drawing and colouring picturesindecreasing anxietylevel of a pre-school child being hospitalized. Method: This scientific paper is an anlytical descriptive with a case study approach.The subject is a five-year old child having anxiety. Data collection was conducted through interview, observation, physical examination, and study documentation. The analysis and presentation of the data were done by using narrative techniques. Result: After applyingthe therapy,the anxiety level of the patientwas decreasing– from the very unhappy level to be happy level. Discussion: The application of play therapy by drawing and coloring pictures is effective to lower down the anxiety level of the patient. This therapy canalso change the patient’s behavior to be more cooperative so as to speed up the his healing process. Conclusion: The application ofdrawing and colouring pictures as play therapy can decrease the child's anxiety level caused by hospitalization
