Abstract
Background: According to WHO (2012), infant mortality rate is an indicator to determine the degree of child health. Every year newborn deaths reach 30% of all deaths of children. It is estimated about 3% or equivalent to 3.6 million of the 120 million newborns who have asphyxia, about 1 million babies die. Objective: to describe the nursing care of asphyxia patients with ineffective airway clearance. Discussion: nursing diagnosis was ineffective airway clearance associated with the accumulation of secret. Interventions and implementations that have been done were giving warming cloth, suctioning, giving tactile stimulus, applying oxygen, collaborating with doctors, and stay observing the patients. Evaluation conducted for three days showed that strong crying of the babies, active movements, RR 40-50 times per minute, reddish skin color, good breastfeeding.
