Abstract
Background: Hand-washing is the process of removing dirt and dust from the skin of both hands with soap and water. The purpose of hand-washing is to remove dirt and dust from the skin and reduce microorganisms. The preliminary study informed that hand-washing of elementary school students still was not in accordance with the step of proper hand-washing. Objective: to describe knowledge and implementation of hand-washing on elementary school students at MI Muhammadiyah Argosari, Ayah. Kebumen. Methods: The present study used descriptive analytic research by distributing questionnaires to the respondents to reveal knowledge and implementation of Elementary School Students about hand-washing. The samples were 100 respondents taken by total sampling technique. Data were presented as percentage of frequency distribution. Results: The majority of respondents’ knowledge were at mediocre category in amount of 42 (42%). There were 31 respondents (31%)at less category, and 27 (27%) at good category. The majority of respondents’ hand-washing implementation were at less category in amount of 52 (52%). There were 28 respondents(28%)at mediocre category, and 19 (19%) at good category. Conclusion: The majority of elementary school students’ knowledge about handwashing were at mediocre category. While the majority of elementary school students’ implementation about hand-washing were at bad category
