Abstract
Background: Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is an irreversible condition characterized by shortness of breath during activity and disruption of airflow in and out of the lungs. A simple method for decreasing the degree of shortness of breath is to set the position at rest. The most effective position for the patient is given a semifowler position. Objective: To explain the nursing care given to patients with Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (COPD) with respiratory pattern ineffectiveness problem in Emergency Hospital Installation Prof. Dr. Margono Soekarjo Purwokerto. Result: The assessment was conducted on three patients: identity, entry reason, medical history, primary assessment, physical examination, and investigation. From the study data it can be concluded that the main diagnosis that emerges is the ineffectiveness of the breath pattern, the main self-nursing action is to position the semi-fowler patients to reduce shortness of breath. Recommendation: The implementation of nursing care in the semi-fowler positioning position should use orthopedic beds, otherwise there may be two or three pillows to support the back area. So it can provide comfort during sleep and can reduce the condition of shortness of breath in patients with Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (COPD).
