Abstract

Background: Labor pain commonly happens to child-bearing mothers and it is a process involving their physiological and psychological. Almost 90% of child-bearing mothers get labor pain. Of which 2.700 mothers, 15% had mild pain, 35% had moderate pain, 30% had severe pain and 20% had very severe pain. Labor pain may effect stress that caused excessive release of hormones, such as catecholamines and steroids. This can be overcome by using pharmacological and non-pharmacologically, i.e. by applying kneading technique to reduce the labor pain. Objective: Applying kneading technique as a non-pharmacology treatment method to decrease the level of labor pain during the active phase of stage I of child-bearing mothers. Method: This research on another analytical descriptive with a case study approach. Data were obtained through interview, observation, documentation and literary study. The participants were 5 child-bearing mothers in stage I. Result: After the first time applying kneading technique, there was a decrease in the average of pain scale by 4 (moderate pain). Meanwhile, after the second time applying kneading technique, the average of pain scale decreased to be 6 (moderate pain).
