Abstract

Background: Anemia ia a condition of red blood cell deficient (hemoglobin is less than 11 g/dL). The high rate of anemia of pregnant mothers in Indonesia is 37.1%. Anemia is often caused by the lack of iron substance of food, the low absorption of iron substance, the presenter of substances blocking the absorption of iron. The government tries to implement anemia preventing program for pregnant mothers by giving 90 FE tablets during pregnancy period. In addition, there are innovative to accelerate the increase of hemoglobin level by giving spinach and tomat juice. Purpose: This study aims at knowing the giving spinach and tomato juice to increase hemoglobin level of pregnant mothers suffering from anemia in Independent Midwifery Clinic of Midwife Syafrida, S.ST Area. Method: This scientific paper is a qualitative descriptive with a case study approach. The samples were 5 pregnant mothers with anemia. The assessment was done by using interview and observation to pregnant mothers with anemia. Result: After consuming spinach and tomato juice, there was in increase in hemoglobin levels of all participants (the average increase is 2 gr/dL).
