Abstract
Background: There is 50% incidence of perineum rupture happens in Asia. The prevalence of maternal mothers with perineum rupture in the age of 25 – 30 years old in Indonesia is 24% and those in the age of 32 – 39 years old is 62%. Perineum ruptures of maternal mothers may cause infectious complication. Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) can be used to reduce the infections. It contains lauric acid which has antibiotic, anti-fungal, and anti-virus. Based on the application, almost 50% of fatty acids in coconut is lauric acid. Objective: To know the application of Virgin Coconut Oil to accelerate the healing of perineum wound of postpartum mothers in independent midwifery clinic of Midwife Sri Rejeki W. Method: This research is an analytical descriptive with a case study approach. Data were obtained through Reeda scale and observation sheet. The Participants were 5 postpartum mothers with second degree-perineum rupture. Result: The findings after applying VCO on 5 respondents are the characteristics of respondents, such as the age of respondents (20-35 years), educational background (80% high school education), number of children (having 1 child is 60%), baby weight > 3500 grams (60%). Prior to the application, all respondents experienced second degree perineum rupture. There were 60% of respondents recovered on day 5 and 40% of respondents recovered on day 6.
