Abstract
Background: In 2016 World Health Organization (WHO) estimated that acute respiratory infection (ARI) of under-five children in developing countries would be over 40 per 1000 live-births with mortality rate of under-five children caused by ARI was about15% -20% per year. In 2016 the prevalence of ARI in Indonesia was 25% with the range of events about 17.5% - 41.4%. There are 16 provinces have prevalence above the national rate. To overcome the increasing trend of mortality rate of under-five children caused by ARI, it is very necessary to provide health education for mothers of the children. This can be done by using audio-visual and flipchart media. Objective: To know the applying media of audio visual and flipcharts for the improvement of mothers’ knowledge of under-five children about acute respiratory infection in Independent Midwifery Clinic of Midwife Supriyatin. Method: This study is a quantitative descriptive with a case study approach. The participants are 5 mothers having under-five children suffering from ARI. Data were obtained through interview and pretest-posttest. Result: After being given health education about ARI using audio-visual media and flipchart, there was an increase in knowledge of all participants about acute respiratory infection (ARI), i.e. score 19 was achieved by 3 participants and score 20 was achieved by 2 participant and they were in good category (100%). Conclusion: The application of audio-visual and flipchart has been proven to be able to improve mother's knowledge about ARI.
