Abstract

Background: The incidence of Indonesian febrile seizures is quite high, which is reported to reach 2-4% in 2012-2013. Risk factors of febrile seizures include the temperature of patients when seizures are more than 39° C, family history, age factor less than 2 years old, and the type of seizure. Some effects of the febrile seizures include brain damage, hypoxia, brain edema and risk of epilepsy. The more damaged brain cells may cause developmental delays. Objective: To analyze the factors associated with cases of children febrile seizures at PKU Muhammadiyah Hospital of Sruweng. Method: The quantitative research using an observational analytic approach using a retrospective study design. Samples of 60 medical records of pediatric patients with cases of febrile seizures were taken by simple random sampling. Results: There was a significant correlation between the factors of child age, body temperature and sex with cases of febrile seizures with p value of <0.005. Conclusion: The most dominant factor associated with cases of children febrile seizures at PKU Muhammadiyah Hospital of Sruweng was age. Recommendation: The Hospital is recommended to pay attention to age, temperature, and gender factors for children febrile seizures so that optimal treatment can be performed.
