Abstract
Background: The reported labor pain reaches 50% in developing countries like Indonesia and Egypt. The World Health Organization (WHO) reported that 93.5% of women in England considered labor pain as severe pain, while 80% of women in Finland described labor pain as uncontrollable pain. Labor pain can cause physiological changes such as increased blood pressure, respiratory rate, and fetal heart rate. Labor pain can be addressed by applying breathing techniques, relaxation, yoga, massage, aromatherapy, hydrotherapy and hypnosis. Labor pain can also be reduced by applying a warm compress using lavender aromatherapy. Objective: To provide midwifery care with a warm compress using lavender aromatherapy as a treatment for labor pain in the first stage of labor. Method: This descriptive study used a case study design. It involved three respondents who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria as participants. Data were obtained from interviews and observations. Results: The application of warm water compresses using lavender aromatherapy during the labor process helped the three respondents optimally reduce the pain intensity. This was based on an assessment using a pain reduction instrument at the end of the application. Conclusion: The application of warm compresses using lavender aromatherapy managed to reduce labor pain in the first stage of labor. active phase I labor pain.
