Abstract

Background: Self-harm is defined as a deliberate act of injuring oneself without the intention of committing suicide or ending one's life. Objective: To assess the readiness of adolescents in preventing self-harm behavior among students at SMA Muhammadiyah Gombong. Method: This study uses a quantitative descriptive method. The research instrument consists of a questionnaire measuring knowledge about self-harm, learning motivation, parental roles, teacher roles, and adolescent readiness for self-harm prevention, with a Cronbach’s alpha value of 0.7. A total sampling technique was used, involving 114 respondents. Data were processed using SPSS and analyzed using univariate tests and cross-tabulation. Results: This study shows that the level of knowledge about adolescent readiness for preventing self-harm behavior falls into the moderate category with 59 respondents (50.4%). Learning motivation is also in the moderate category with 98 respondents (83.8%). The role of parents is in the moderate category with 56 respondents (47.9%), while the role of teachers falls into the low category with 45 respondents (38.5%). Overall, adolescent readiness for preventing self-harm behavior is categorized as good, with 82 respondents (70.1%). Conclusion: The level of adolescent readiness for self-harm prevention among 11th-grade students at SMA Muhammadiyah Gombong falls into the good category for 82 respondents (70.1%). Recommendation: Future study should explore in more depth the roles of parents and teachers in preventing self-harm among adolescents.
