Abstract

Background: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronically uninfected disease that is one of the leading causes of death each year. The prevalence is increasing globally, where Indonesia itself ranks 5th with 18 million sufferers. The patient's obedience to keeping the blood glucose levels within normal range is essential to successful therapy. A high level of patient's obedience to medication if increased will result in a better quality of patient's life. Objective: To determine the relationship between medication adherence and the quality of life of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus at RSUD dr. Soedirman Kebumen. Method: This method used quantitative methods with correlational design with a cross sectional approach. The number of samples was 100 outpatients at dr. Soedirman Kebumen Hospital. The measuring tools used were the MARS-10 and DQLCTQ questionnaires. Data analysis using Chi Square statistical test. Results: Showing adherence to drug therapy in type 2 DM patients with the category of moderately compliant 47% and quality of life of type 2 DM patients with the good category of 64%. The results of the Chi Square test obtained a p-value = 0.001 (p<0.05) which indicates the existence of a relationship. Conclusion: There is a significant relationship (p-value=0.001) between adherence to drug therapy and the quality of life of type 2 DM outpatients at dr. Soedirman. Recommendation: For further research, researchers are expected to be more likely to factor in the obedience of drug therapies that can affect the life quality of patient dm type 2
