Abstract
Background : An increase in systolic blood pressure above 140 mmHg and diastolic blood pressure above 90 mmHg are indications of hypertension. Undiagnosed hypertension can lead to a number of consequences, including kidney failure, diabetes mellitus, coronary heart disease and stroke. Some of the causes of high blood pressure cannot be identified. In addition to the absence of specific symptoms, high blood pressure is often associated with risk factors such as genetics, lack of physical activity, and smoking. Because the body is harmed by nicotine as well as carbon monoxide, which is found in cigarettes. Another factor that causes obesity to hypertension is that there are two ways obesity causes hypertension, namely indirect and direct. In terms of directness, namely a person who is obese, that person must have an BMI above normal so that their blood supply or heart output is enlarged. Research Objective : The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between obesity and smoking habits with hypertension at the Posyandu Elderly Dukuh Caruban Puskesmas Adimulyo. Research Methods : This study uses a non-experimental quantitative type with a correlational descriptive design. Descriptive correlation is a study with the aim of identifying the relationship between two research variables without the need for a control group. The approach uses cross sectional where the approach emphasizes the time of data measurement of independent variables (Obesity and Smoking Habits) and dependent variables (hypertension) which are carried out simultaneously. Data is processed using the SPSS program. Research Results : This study involved 31 elderly respondents who met the inclusion criteria. The distribution of the study variables showed the normal level of obesity status of 17 people (54.84%), and obesity with risk as many as 14 people (45.16%). It was explained that 25 people (80.65%) were non-smokers. Meanwhile, moderate smokers were 1 person (3.23%), and heavy smokers were 5 people (16.13%). From the results of the Spearman Rank Test, it was found that there was no positive relationship between obesity and hypertension with a p= 0.638 value and also smoking habits with hypertension with a p= 0.081 value with a very low relationship. Conclusion : In this study, no positive relationship was found between obesity and smoking habits and hypertension. Recommendations for future researchers : It is expected to conduct research with a larger sample number and use multivariate analysis methods in order to identify risk factors for hypertension more comprehensively.
