Abstract

Background: Relapse in People with Mental Disorders (ODGJ) remains one of the major challenges in long-term care. External support, such as from family and the surrounding environment, plays a significant role in preventing relapse. Objective: This study aims to identify the forms and levels of external support (family and environmental support) in preventing relapse among ODGJ at RSU Siaga Medika Banyumas. Methods: This research employed a quantitative method with a correlational design using a cross-sectional approach. A total of 139 respondents were selected based on Slovin’s formula. Data were collected using relapse, family support, and environmental support questionnaires specific to ODGJ. Results: Most respondents were aged 31–40 years range 69 respondents (49.6%), were female (71 respondents (51.1%), worked as laborers (47 respondents (33.8%), and had a high school education (89 respondents (64%). A total of 113 respondents (81.3%) stated that ODGJ patients received good support from their surrounding environment. In addition, 115 respondents (82.7%) of ODGJ received high family support. This is in line with the data that 85 respondents (61.2%) did not experience a relapse. Conclusion: External support from both family and the environment contributes positively to relapse prevention in ODGJ. Recommendation: Continuous efforts are needed from healthcare professionals to involve families and communities in the care of ODGJ through education, emotional support, and creating a recovery-supportive environment
