Abstract

Background: Handwashing with soap is an important behavior in preventing infectious diseases; however, awareness and practice among elementary school students remain low. Therefore, age-appropriate and engaging educational media are needed to improve students' knowledge and behavior. Objective: To determine the effect of digital comic educational media on children's knowledge and behavior regarding handwashing with soap. Method: A quasi-experimental study with a pretest-posttest control group design. The sample consisted of 60 students, with 30 students in the intervention group and 30 in the control group. Data were collected using questionnaires and observation sheets, and analyzed using the Wilcoxon and Mann-Whitney tests. Results: The intervention group showed a significant improvement in knowledge (p = 0.000) and behavior (p = 0.000). Meanwhile, the control group did not show a significant improvement in either knowledge (p = 0.118) or behavior (p = 0.134). The Mann-Whitney test results indicated a significant difference between the intervention and control groups in post-test scores for knowledge (p = 0.000) and behavior(p=0.006). Conclusion: The use of digital comic educational media has an effect on improving children's knowledge and behavior regarding handwashing with soap. Recommendation: Digital comic-based educational media can be used as a health promotion tool in elementary school settings.
