Abstract

Background: The birthing process brings joy to every woman, marking the end of pregnancy and the beginning of life outside the womb for the newborn. Becoming a mother is the dream of many women, who want to provide the best, including in terms of baby nutrition, especially through breast milk. Some of the factors inhibiting exclusive breastfeeding involve little milk output, lack of knowledge, social support and working mothers, as well as long working hours which can cause stress and fatigue in mothers, which in turn can affect the mother's ability to maintain exclusive breastfeeding. Objective: To determine the process of self-acceptance and changes in the role of working mothers in the process of breastfeeding at Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital. Methods: This research uses a qualitative type with a phenomenological approach. In this study the participants consisted of 8 mothers. This study used the Collaizi method for data analysis Results: The perception of self-acceptance of working mothers obtained 4 themes, namely the perception of self-acceptance of mothers as working and breastfeeding mothers, the difficulties experienced in the process of giving exclusive breast milk, the efforts of mothers in giving exclusive breast milk, the hopes of mothers during the process of giving exclusive breast milk. Changes in the role of working mothers in the breastfeeding process at Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital obtained 3 themes, namely the dual role as working mothers and breastfeeding mothers, obstacles in the breastfeeding process and support in breastfeeding practices for working mothers. Conclusion: Participants' perception of self-acceptance as working mothers who have to provide breast milk is that they feel happy and enthusiastic about giving breast milk. Participants stated that there have been significant changes, including that mothers have to fulfill a dual role, namely as a working mother and a housewife. Recommendations: This research is recommended for health workers in providing nursing care services to working mothers regarding the process of self-acceptance and changes in the role of working mothers in the process of breastfeeding.
