Abstract

Background, Breast cancer is one of the chronic diseases experienced by many women and causes various physical and psychological impacts, especially in patients undergoing chemotherapy. Side effects of chemotherapy such as nausea, loss of appetite, and fatigue can affect eating pattern so that it has an impact on the patient's quality of life. Purpose, Identify the relationship between eating pattern and quality of life of breast cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy at PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital. Methods, This study employed a quantitative research method with a correlational descriptive design using a cross-sectional approach. The study population consisted of 110 respondents, and 86 respondents were selected using purposive sampling. The instruments used were the Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ) and the European Organization For Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire (EORTC QLQ-BR23) Results, Showed that (53.5%) of respondents had a bad eating pattern, while (46.5%) had a good eating pattern. Patients' quality of life was in the mild (5.8%), medium (46.5%), and high (47.7%) categories. The results of the statistical test using Chi Square obtained a p-value of 0.011 (<0.05). Conclusion, There is a significant relationship between eating pattern and the quality of life of breast cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy at PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital. Recommendations, It is necessary to add variables and increase the number of research samples.
