Abstract

Background: Hypertension is a condition in which blood pressure increases above the normal range and can cause pain and even death. Signs and symptoms that often appear in hypertension are headaches. Progressive muscle relaxation is a systematic therapy to achieve depth of relaxation so that it can reduce acute pain, stress and blood pressure. A decrease in the pain scale can occur during Progressive muscle relaxation therapy in hypertension sufferers in the Al Ma'un Room at PKU Muhammadiyah Hospital, Sruweng. Objective: To analyze nursing care for acute pain in hypertensive patients in the Al Ma'un Room at PKU Muhammadiyah Sruweng Hospital, Kebumen Regency. Method: This research used a case study design was employed on 5 hypertensive patients in the Al Ma'un Room at PKU Muhammadiyah Sruweng Hospital. Data analysis employed descriptive analysis. Results: The nursing problem that emerged in 5 patients with hypertension was acute pain. Nursing intervention involved applying Progressive muscle relaxation therapy, which was carried out for 3 days of treatment. The results of applying Progressive muscle relaxation therapy showed a significant reduction in pain, with three patients experiencing a pain scale of 6 and 2 patients with a pain scale of 5. After Progressive muscle relaxation therapy was carried out for three days, the pain scale decreased to 1-2. Recommendation: Nurses should apply a combination of deep breathing and murottal relaxation therapy to patients with acute pain nursing problems.
