Abstract
Background: The problem of undernutrition in infants is caused by inadequate maternal attitudes in providing complementary feeding (MPASI). Low maternal knowledge regarding balanced nutrition affects mothers’ attitudes toward MP-ASI, indicating the need for educational interventions to develop positive maternal attitudes in complementary feeding practices. Objective: To determine the effect of education on mothers’ attitudes toward providing complementary feeding (MP-ASI) for infants. Methods: This study employed a quasi-experimental method with a pretest–posttest control group design. The respondents were 70 mothers with infants aged 6–24 months, consisting of 35 in the intervention group and 35 in the control group, selected using total sampling. Results: The intervention group showed a significant improvement in attitudes (p = 0.000), while the control group showed no significant improvement (p = 0.262). The Mann–Whitney test indicated a significant difference between the two groups (p = 0.032). Conclusion: Education has a significant effect on mothers’ attitudes toward providing complementary feeding (MP-ASI) for infants, with a p-value ≤ 0.05. Recommendation: Future researchers are expected to examine the effectiveness of MP-ASI education using demonstration methods on complementary feeding practices.
