Abstract

Background: Hypertension is a dangerous chronic disease that is often experienced by the elderly in Indonesia. Low compliance with the hypertension diet in the elderly regarding diet, salt consumption, and hypertension medication consumption as a result of blood pressure not being maintained, causing various complications and reducing quality of life. Quality of life is being affected by the level of family support. Research Objectives: This study aims to determine the relationship between family support for hypertension dietary adherence and quality of life of the elderly with hypertension at the Kuwarasan Health Center. Research Method: This study is a quantitative study with a cross sectional design. The research population was all prolanis at the Kuwarasan Health Center, with a sample of 43 respondents selected using the total sampling technique. Study Results: Relationship analysis showed a significant association between family support for hypertension dietary adherence to a result of 0.009 (p<0.05). Meanwhile, the relationship between family support and the quality of life of the elderly with hypertension was 0.001 (p<0.05). Conclusion: There was a significant relationship between family support for hypertension diet adherence and quality of life of the elderly with hypertension at the Kuwarasan Health Center. Recommendations for Further Researchers: It is hoped that future research can apply qualitative methods to explore the perceptions, challenges, and experiences of the elderly and family members regarding hypertension diets and available supports.
