Abstract
Background: Hypertension is a chronic disease commonly experienced by the elderly and may lead to serious complications if not properly managed. Anxiety levels in elderly patients with hypertension are assumed to influence their adherence to antihypertensive treatment. Research Purposes: This study aims to analyze the relationship between anxiety levels and adherence to hypertension treatment in the elderly at Buluspesantren II Community Health Center, Kebumen. Research Methods: This study employed a quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling, with a sample consisting of 101 respondents. Anxiety levels were measured using the Geriatric Anxiety Inventory (GAI), while medication adherence was assessed using the Morisky Medication Adherence Scale (MMAS-8). Data analysis was conducted using Spearman’s rho test. Research Results: The majority of the elderly participants were aged 60–69 years, accounting for 69 respondents (68.3%), and most were female, with 71 respondents (70.3%). The most prevalent level of anxiety was moderate anxiety, observed in 53 respondents (52.5%), while medication adherence was predominantly at a moderate level in 43 respondents (42.6%). Correlation analysis revealed a significant positive relationship between anxiety level and hypertension medication adherence (r = 0.664; p = 0.000) Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between anxiety levels and adherence to hypertension treat. Reccomendation: Future studies are encouraged to incorporate additional variables, such as family support and level of knowledge, to enhance the understanding of factors influencing anxiety and medication adherence among older adults.
