Abstract

Background: Hypertension is one of the non-communicable diseases with a high prevalence and is a major cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. One of the main problems in hypertension management is low patient adherence to long-term medication. Peer Group Support, as a form of social support from fellow hypertensive patients, plays an important role in increasing motivation, awareness, and adherence behavior toward treatment. Purpose: This study aimed to determine the relationship between Peer Group Support and medication adherence among hypertensive patients at Kebumen III Community Health Center. Methods: This study employed a quantitative research method with a cross-sectional design. The study population consisted of all hypertensive patients participating in the Prolanis program at Kebumen III Community Health Center, totaling 40 individuals. A sample of 36 respondents was selected using purposive sampling. The research instruments included a Peer Group Support questionnaire and the MMAS-8 (Morisky Medication Adherence Scale) questionnaire. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate analysis with Chi-Square Test. Results: The results of the bivariate analysis showed a significant relationship between Peer Group Support and medication adherence among hypertensive patients, with a p-value of 0.001 (p < 0.05). Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between Peer Group Support and medication adherence among hypertensive patients at Kebumen III community health center. Recommendations: Future studies are expected to examine other factors influencing medication adherence and to develop Peer Group Support–based interventions using longitudinal or experimental research designs
