Abstract

Background: Breast self examination (BSE) is an important early detection method for breast cancer that should be introduced from adolescence. However, the level of knowledge regarding BSE among adolescent girls remains relatively low due to limitations in the methods and media used in health education. The use of interactive digital media, such as the Quizizz application, has the potential to enhance the effectiveness of health education as it aligns with the characteristics of adolescents as digital natives. Purpose: This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of health education delivered through the Quizizz application in improving knowledge of breast self-examination (BSE) among adolescent girls at SMA Muhammadiyah Gombong. Methods: This study employed a pre-experimental design using a one-group pretest posttest approach. The sample consisted of 50 adolescent girls at SMA Muhammadiyah Gombong, selected using purposive sampling. The research instrument was a questionnaire assessing knowledge of BSE. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon test. Results: The results showed that before the intervention, the majority of respondents had a moderate level of BSE knowledge (64%). After receiving health education through the Quizizz application, most respondents demonstrated an increase in knowledge to a high category (96%). The Wilcoxon test yielded a Z score of -6.132 with a significance value of 0.000. Conclusion: Health education delivered through the Quizizz application was proven to be effective in improving knowledge of breast self examination (BSE) among adolescent girls at SMA Muhammadiyah Gombong. Recommendations: Future researchers are encouraged to use a research design with a control group and to develop more varied digital learning media to further enhance health education outcomes.
