Abstract

Background, Stunting is a chronic nutritional problem that affects the growth and development of children. The prevalence of stunting in Indonesia in 2023 reached 21.5%, while in the working area of Rowokele Community Health Center there are 256 stunted toddlers. This condition can be a stressor for families, thus adaptive coping mechanisms are needed. Therefore, this study aims to describe the coping mechanisms in families with stunted children in the working area of Rowokele Community Health Center, Kebumen Regency. Objective, to understand the overview of coping mechanisms in families with stunted children in the work area of Rowokele Health Center, Kebumen Regency. Methods, This study uses a quantitative method with a cross-sectional design. The research population consisted of 256 families with stunted children and the sample consisted of 71 respondents selected using the Slovin formula. The data were analyzed descriptively. Result, Most respondents were aged 25–30 years (69%), had junior high school education (80.3%), and worked as farmers (84.5%). Most families had adaptive coping mechanisms, totaling 46 families (64.79%), with the highest indicator being social support. Conclusion, Most families with children who are stunted have adaptive coping mechanisms that help the family in dealing with the child's health problems. Recommedation, It is expected that other factors affecting the incidence of stunting, such as parenting patterns, education level, and family environmental conditions, can be studied.
