Abstract

Background of the Study : The results of the Indonesian Health Survey show that the prevalence of ISPA by province is 877,531 cases. ISPA, commonly known as the common cold, is an infectious disease caused by viruses and bacteria, and can disrupt public health. The Sambiloto plant contains Andrographolide compounds that can increase immunity in the upper respiratory tract. Ginger, as a herbal medicine, contains essential oils to relieve coughs and can help reduce inflammation in the respiratory tract. Research Objective : to produce medicines from natural ingredients to help relieve ISPA or common cold symptoms and improve public health in Indonesia. Research Method : This type of research is experimental with qualitative data. Results : Evaluation of the formula of sambioto extract and ginger extract was carried out through organoleptic tests and water content tests. The organoleptic test of the formula showed that the formula had a very bitter taste accompanied by spiciness, a yellowish green color, a distinctive ginger aroma, and a powder form. The water content test of the resulting formula was 3.29%, and was in accordance with the standard water content of the extract, which was less than 10%. This formula was formed into a capsule preparation. Conclusion : The innovative formula of sambiloto and ginger extracts in capsule form can be used as an alternative natural medicine to relieve symptoms of acute respiratory infections (ARI) or the common cold. Recommendation : This formula can be evaluated in capsule form, such as through disintegration time tests, weight uniformity tests, and long-term stability tests, as well as clinical trials to ensure greater safety and effectiveness.
