Abstract

Background: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic metabolic disease or disorder with a high etiology of high blood sugar levels accompanied by impaired metabolism of carbohydrates, lipids and proteins as a result of insulin function insufficiency. Adherence to diet is one of the success factors in preventing complications and speeding up recovery in DM patients. This study aims to determine the perception of type 2 Diabetes Mellitus patients in their dietary adherence. Objectives: The purpose of this study is to determine the perception of type 2 Diabetes Mellitus patients in dietary adherence at PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital. Methods: This case study study used in-depth interviews related to dietary adherence of DM patients using semi-structured guidelines in 10 participants. Data analysis using descriptive qualitative analysis methods. The population in this study is all Type 2 DM patients at PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital, which is a total of 4011 patients in the last 3 months, and the sample used is based on data saturation. Results: Identification found there were three main themes: Cognition, affection and diet-compliant behavior. Conclusion: Diet-compliant behavior is significantly influenced by attitudes, subjective norms, individual behavioral control and intentions. The greater the ease that DM sufferers have, the easier it will be to behave according to the diet. Recommendation: To obtain better and more accurate analysis results, this study can be used as a basis for further research on the perception of Diabetes Mellitus patients in dietary adherence.
